Two-time DMC World DJ Champion Shiftee teams up with Manus on this first taste taken from Shiftee’s upcoming Boom Bap & Beyond EP: Van Full Of Drugs.
“I linked w/ the LA-based Manus via my homies Lazerdisk. They came through my crib during a NY trip and we wrote a bunch of songs together in my little home studio. We were sippin on some fancy scotch when Manus was telling stories about how he used to roll into NYC in a, well, van full of drugs. I threw on the beat, and we almost immediately knocked out the song. The first vocals you hear are are the first things he even said to the beat. One of those magical collaborative moments in the studio,” say Shiftee when talking about Van Full Of Drugs.
Beyond Boom Bap
The entire EP drops May 19 on the DJ’s own label Hot Mom USA. On it the DJ and producer from Brooklyn explores “the boundaries of rap & bass, taking it back to his roots as a world champion turntablist who has long had a foot in the underground electronic world. 4 original songs, 4 features, and 4 signature live performance videos forthcoming. The result is vivacious & heavy, playful yet banging.”
